This is called a Spring Explosion Tea Cozy, and of course that name is perfect. It is a fab knitting project for a beginner knitter as it is worked flat and in stocking stitch. This is a pattern for knitting and crochet together, although it is able to be modified as much as you like, so if you are skilled enough to knit flowers, they can be exchanged for the crochet flowers!
