Sugar scrub bars bring you all the exfoliating benefits of a sugar scrub in an easy to use soap format.
To make your own sugar scrub bars, you’ll need a silicone baking mold in the shape of your choice. If you’re giving the bars as a gift, try to pick a seasonally appropriate mold. Snowflakes are a cute choice for winter, but hearts would be excellent for Valentine’s Day gifts and flowers would be perfect for Mother’s Day.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1 cup melt and pour soap base
- 10-12 drops essential oil in the fragrance of your choice
- 2 cups sugar
- Soap colorant
Getting it Done!
Microwave your melt and pour soap base in 15 second intervals. Stir the soap in between to make sure it melts evenly. Add the coconut oil, mixing until combined. Look for a brand of coconut oil without a strong coconut scent to use for this project, unless you really love the smell of coconut.
Add the essential oil. You can use one oil or a blend of oils, depending upon your personal preference. Peppermint, lavender, sweet orange, lemon, and grapefruit are popular choices. If you don’t have essential oils, vanilla extract from your kitchen will also work.
If you want your soap to be colored, add a small amount of colorant and mix until the mixture is a uniform color. Remember to add the colorant a little bit at a time so your soap doesn’t get too dark.
Mix in your sugar and stir until the mixture has a slush like consistency.
Pour the mixture into your silicone mold. If you’re using baking pans intended for muffins, you’ll need about ⅓ cup mix per mold. This means you’ll get about 9 sugar scrub soaps from this recipe.
Allow your soaps to dry for at least two hours before removing them from the molds.
NOTE: Package your sugar scrub soaps in gift tins or clear cellophane bags tied with ribbon for easy gift giving.
